If you’re anything like us and don’t mind a ripped hero/heroine facing off against world-ending evil on behalf of humankind, you’re probs craving something to fill that Avengers-shaped hole inside you – and we ain’t referring to Tony Stark’s chest hole either.
Here are some upcoming superhero films we’re frothing for that you can expect to see on a screen near you shortly:
Hitting Aus screens on Feb 6th, the newest instalment of the Harley Quinn story has already been garnering a lot of buzz at preview screenings, with critics heaping praise onto our own Margot Robbie. With Ewan McGreogor taking the “bad guy” reigns, it shoud be a pretty pretty delightful romp, filled with colour, explosions and that famous HQ schtick.

Due out June 25, 2021, The Batman offers an opportunity to shine the spotlight back on The Caped Crusader, after a string of Joker actors stealing the headlines over the past decade. It will be super interesting to see what Robert Pattinson, who has now successfully broken away from the weight of Twilight and established himself as a fully-fledged method actor. Director Matt Reeves is no stranger to epic and tense drama either, so it should be a good ride.
Ok ok, so maybe this is a little childish of us, but Shazam was actually pretty fun. The sequel is due out April 1, 2022, and we’re keen to see what challenges ol’ Billy Batson faces as he inches closer to adult life. Hopefully, he doesn’t use his powers to start an elite superhero accounting firm…

With the astronomical success of Black Panther, including an Oscar nomination, it should come as no surprise that a sequel is well and truly in the works. Due out May 6, 2022, Collider reports that director Ryan Coogler has turned in a treatment to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, and the director is happy to take his time in delivering the film (so maybe double-check that date a little later).
Fresh off the back of two Oscar-nominated performances in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit, it seems like Scarlett Johannson is having a golden run. Naturally Black Widow, which is heading to screens on May 1st this year, will be garnering a lot of attention due to its ties to Avengers, as director Cate Shortland takes fans back in time for what we’re assuming will be something of an origin story. Rachel Weisz, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle and David Harbour are all on board, so there’s no shortage of talent on hand to push this film’s success to the level of male-led movies of the genre.
