The fight to end it all..

Canelo Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) will face off with fellow middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) for their third face off. Alvarez’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, are hoping to schedule the fight for September 12 during Mexico’s Independence Day, set to take place inside the AT&T Stadium outside of Dallas.

The pair have quite the history, defined by dislike on both sides, failed drug tests and a pair of pay-per-view bouts that were universally loved. Their 2017 face-off saw Alvarez settle for a split draw in which most felt Golovkin had won. The next year, Alvarez came out on top in a majority decision that was nail bitingly close.

It seems Alvarez has been playing the waiting game, with Golovkin taking two years to chase Alvarez down for their first fight in 2017. Critics have attacked Alvarez for waiting for Golovkin to age, who’ll be 38 by the time they meet for their third fight. It seems to have worked, with Golovkin showing signs of slipping in his bout with Sergiy Derevyanchenko last October, whilst Alvarez is still clearly in his prime; easily taking down Daniel Jacobs in a middleweight unification bout, as well as knocking out Sergey Kovalev in November last year.

Safe to say the final fight will end all talk and speculation, and we’re hoping that we get the fight worthy of ending the infamous trilogy…
