Remember that Post Malone helmed Nirvana tribute concert we told you about last week? Yeah, it was a complete success, with it absolutely rocking the internet and then some. For 80 glorious minutes, Post blessed us with some classic punk rock nostalgia as he covered Nirvana hits like ‘About a Girl’, ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ and ‘Come As You Are’, all the while raising much needed funds for COVID-19 relief.
Joined by Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, as well as bassist Brian Lee and guitarist Nick Mack, the makeshift concert raised $1 million in the first hour alone, with the number now around a total of $4.3 million and counting. And don’t worry, all proceeds are going to the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for The World Health Organization.
Viewers across the world were definitely taken with the virtual concert, with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselić saying “I don’t think these fellows can play any better. They are on fire!!!!” while admitting that he was “holding emotions back the whole show.”
Courtney Love also seemed to love it, commenting “GOOSEBUMPS! F*** YES.” on Instagram.
Who knew a Hip Hop act could do justice to punk rock music? Oh wait, almost everyone. In fact, we’ve put together a collection of five times that a rapper covered a rock song and it actually worked, which you can check out here.
But if you haven’t already, be sure to check out Posty’s virtual Nirvana concert below and get that inner punk rocker on.
