Boxing legend and baddest man on the planet Mike Tyson has been offered over a million dollars to come out of retirement and face off with the undefeated Sonny Bill Williams in the ring. You may be thinking that Mike is too old, that it wouldn’t be a fair fight, but MMA guru Rafael Cordeiro who’s been training Tyson says that he could be ready for a fight in only five months if he needed to be.
“The power is different level,” he said. “I have trained a lot of heavyweights in my career, with not a lot of respect for everybody, but he is almost as powerful as Wanderlei Silva is right now. When you talk about power, I held his right hook and thought ‘he is going to kill somebody’.” If that isn’t an indicator that Mike has still got it, then what is?
Promoter Brian Amatruda is the brains behind the whole operation, lining up plenty of potential opponents like Barry Hall, Paul Gallen, and Sonny Bill. He’s also got big plans for the venue, setting his eyes on arenas like Melbourne Arena and Princes Park.
But even if Mike agrees, the tough part is getting him a visa to get into the country, with his rape conviction in 1992 restricting from travelling to certain parts of the world. He managed to get into the country in 2012, but it’s unclear if he’ll get one this time around, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing.
“We’d have to wait until the coronavirus shutdowns are over of course so the fight probably wouldn’t be until early next year – as long as we can get the visa”.
Who else is as keen as we are? Here’s hoping this ends up happening…
