Having snuck in the track during one of the last Like A Version’s before the world went into lockdown, indie singer-songwriter Georgia Flipo AKA G Flip has today shared animated visuals for fan favourite ‘Hyperfine’. A testament to what can be achieved in isolation, the clip was shot using a green screen in G’s Melbourne bedroom, with director Dan Wakehurst calling the shots from Sydney.
“Dan jumped in and virtually directed me via Skype and we filmed using lighting and film gear I found in my house. My mum even got involved and held a hairdryer to create ‘wind’ during my bike scene, thanks Mum. We had so much fun going back and forth via Skype, giving notes, and navigating this new video process,” G Flip says of the clip.
Lyrically the tune, which is switches between emotive verses and infectiously bubbly choruses, sums up a feeling that anyone who’s been in a relationship will probably be aware of – the dreaded (and incredibly frustrating) doublespeak wherein a partner says pretty much the opposite of how they actually feel.
“I wrote this song after having silly little bickering fights with my partner,” G Flip said. “In relationships it’s so common to say ‘it’s fine’ when it’s really not fine. If you care about someone, talk to them. In the context of what’s going on, I thought it would be a good chance to drop a bit of a bop to sing along to and feel alive again in this time.”
