Im sure you’re well aware of Timbaland’s and Swizz Beat’s Verzuz Instagram Live series, with DMX calling out Jay-Z to battle him last week and Nelly vs Ludacris just being announced.
Now, it seems John Legend wants to get on board with the concept, but with a sight twist. Appearing on Power 106 with Nick Cannon, Legend said he’d only take part in the series if it was in the form of a piano battle. Upon Cannon suggesting Alicia Keys as his opponent, Legend was immediately on board.
“I think that’d probably be the best thing,” he said. “And, honestly, I think we would do it. If we did it, it would be like a dueling piano thing… I think we will.”
With previous matchups feating the likes of Teddy Riley vs Babyface, DJ Premier vs RZA and Hit-Boy vs Boi-1da, it’s safe to say Legend and Keys would be one of the biggest battles to date.
Legend went on to praise the series, saying “What I do love about the way it’s been going so far is we’re seeing producers and writers, more than just artists,” he said. “Because the producers and writers, what’s so cool about it, is you didn’t maybe know they produced this song, or know they were behind that”.
It is a super sick concept, and we’re definitely keen to see the pair go head-to-head soon. Check out some examples of the pair’s piano mastery below and get keen.
