What a life…

Today marks what would’ve been the 74th birthday of André René Roussimoff (AKA André The Giant), the iconic professional wrestler and actor that was one of the defining figures of the WWE in the 1980s. Standing at over seven feet tall, André towered over all who opposed him in the ring, his height and size literally knowing no bounds. He was without a doubt a hot contender in the WWE, feuding with wrestling megastar Hulk Hogan and even beating him at WrestleMania III in 1987 for the WWF (WWE) World Heavyweight Championship. He also held the WWF Tag Team championship, but had to forfeit it in 1992 due to his worsening health.

He was so much more than a wrestler though, appearing in numerous film and television shows in the 70s and 80s, ranging from The Fall Guy, Conan the Destroyer, Les Brilliant and most notably The Princess Bride, portraying Fezznik the giant (no surprises here).

But regardless of his achievements, he seemed to be a straight up nice guy, and was taken from us far too soon in 1993. With today being what would’ve been his 74th birthday, we thought we’d take a little trip down memory lane through some of his most iconic clips.
