After dropping a four-track EP on Spotify last year, Sydney artist Willy Coleman AKA AMOK has today shared a brand new single, ‘Shibuya’, along with some tripped-out accompanying visuals. Take a moment to roll that joint or let those mushies kick in before you delve though, as this one’s a bit of journey.
Sonically there are flashes of James Blake, Darkside and Radiohead throughout the track which weaves between dystopian grooves and ghostly piano lines, before a healthy dose of snare kicks in amongst heavily effected vocals. If you’re looking for a real treat, chuck some headphones on whilst you listen to it and feel the sounds swirl around.
The video, which was shot and edited by Liam French, was filmed in a Petri dish using ferrofluid, glow sticks and acrylic ink, and shot on a macro lens. It matches the other-worldly, yet organic, nature of the song to a tee and feels like the two are intrinsically connected to each other.
No word on what is to come from AMOK, but we get the feeling he likes to keep it mysterious like that… Stay tuned.
