With Conor McGregor announcing his decision to walk away from a life of fighting just days ago, it appears the hate is already coming in, specifically from his former rival Floyd Mayweather. Following his announcing his retirement on Sunday, Conor took to Instagram to post a cake his family made for him that read “Happy Retirement Daddy”.
Instead of wishing McGregor the best, Mayweather seemed a bit puzzled by the decision, commenting “If I’m not mistaken, didn’t you tell Mike Tyson you could beat me if we fought a second time?” he wrote. “Now you’re quitting! I thought you wanted to beat the best? Well, if you decide to come back, I will be waiting to punish you again.”
I mean fair enough, Conor did promise Mike Tyson that he’d beat Floyd in “the inevitable rematch”, in fact he promised his life on it, but it appears he isn’t on the same wave anymore.
Thank you Mike, and just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd’s style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd.
I promise my life on it.
It is great to see you back Iron Mike ❤️ https://t.co/NDrVnEaukm— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) May 15, 2020
If there is anyone who can get under McGregor’s skin, it’s definitely Floyd Mayweather. Whether he’ll take the bait and come back for a rematch remains to be seen, but until then, it appears he’ll be enjoying the high life.
