Following the success of 2018’s BlacKkKlansman, acclaimed director Spike Lee has set his focus on another retelling of historical events. This time he’s looking back at the Vietnam war and examining the role of black soldiers who served disproportionately to white soldiers – in 1967 African-American’s made up 16% of the army, whilst only 11% of the population.
From what we can see the film follows a group of five vets (Da Bloods) who are returning to ‘Nam to find gold they once buried there, which we learn from flashbacks. It also appears that, as in BlacKkKlansman Lee will be incorporating historical footage in the film which had a budget of $40 million.
The cast is pretty impressive too, with Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman joined by Delroy Lindo, Clark Peters, Isiah Whitlock Jr, Norm Lewis and more. The film should be live on Netflix today, check it!
