Continuing to build the hype for Beyoncé’s new visual album Black Is King, Disney has dropped the official trailer, and of course it’s straight up beautiful & goosebump inducing.
The trailer starts off with a shot of the solar system, with a person flowing through before being blasted with some form of solar energy. Beyoncé’s voice quickly enters, telling the audience “You, who were formed by the heat of the galaxy. What a thing to be, both unique and familiar.” We’re then blessed with some gorgeous shots of the natural world, with Bey carrying a baby throughout before painting a young child’s face on a beach. As the child grows we see the transition from natural world to city-landscapes. But then the music starts, and boy, my heart definitely skipped a beat on the first listen.
As the up-tempo beat begins, we see various celebrities such as Lupita Nyong’o & Angela Bassett make some fire cameos, not to mention Bey’s husband Jay-Z, with the settings getting more & more ethereal. The trailer ends with a person flying through the cosmos, entering Earth’s atmosphere as a comet that a group of people stand watching. It’s definitely a gorgeous trailer for what is sure to be a monumental visual album, and it’s no surprise that Bey wrote, directed, produced & starred in the project. You can feel her artistry radiating off every shot, and no doubt that’ll just be intensified once we get to see the project in full.
Speaking on the project last month, Beyoncé wrote “Black Is King is a labor of love. It is my passion project that I have been filming, researching and editing day and night for the past year. I’ve given it my all and now it’s yours.”
We definitely can’t wait, get keen for July 31 & check out the full trailer below.
