Continuing their critically acclaimed Song Machine series, Gorillaz have teamed up with LA rapper Schoolboy Q for their latest track ‘PAC-MAN’, and it’s a straight up jam & a half. Along with the new song, the killer duo have dropped a sick accompanying music video, which blends animation with live-action, arriving on the 40th anniversary of the iconic game.
The vid is of course totally transportive, with a real life Schoolboy Q recording his verses in Gorillaz London studio (pre-COVID), as various animations and cartoons surround him, making for a cool as bridging of two worlds. Gorillaz do their thing as well, murdering the electronic beat with some sultry af vocals, perfectly matching the vibe of the tune & video.
The vid makes for episode five of the beloved Song Machine series, with previous episodes seeing the British band collaborate with stars like Slowthai, Octavian & Peter Hook. They also shared a classy tribute to the late Tony Allen with ‘How Far?’ way back in May, which featured both Allen and Skepta.
They definitely have been properly busy, and we hope they don’t stop any time soon. Fingers crossed we get to see ‘PAC-MAN’ live at Splendour next year. Check out the video below.
