Gonna pull big numbers…

Hip hop fans brace yourselves, as a series of personal items belonging to Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG are up for auction at a hip-hop-themed sale in New York. The sale will take lace on September 15, and will celebrate the hip in its totality, from its history to cultural impact.

Speaking on the sale, Vice President and senior specialist for the organisation holding the auction Cassandra Hatton said “Since its birth in the Bronx in the 1970s, hip-hop has become a global cultural force, whose massive influence continues to shape all realms of culture: music, fashion, design, art, film, social attitudes, language, and more. This sale is a celebration of the origins and early eras of that influence.”

The auction includes letters from Shakur and his close friend Jada Pinkett-Smith (expected to fetch approximately $80,000 AUD to $110,000 AUD) and Biggie’s iconic crown (expected to fetch $275,000 AUD). The crown is actually made of plastic and would be virtually worthless had Biggie not worn it, which just goes to show his incredible star power even two decades after his death.

Sounds like a lot right? This is actually the norm for auctions of this type, with items such as the 1962 management contract for the Beatles selling for $665,000 AUD alone. So it’ll be dope to see people put their wallets forth for hip hops finest. Check out the items below and be prepared to get your wallets out.
