New tunes, who dis?

It’s that time of the week again. No, not that time where you check your bank balance and realise that you’ve already blown your week’s wages on useless crapola – it’s that time where we clock the newest tracks to that you oughta be listening to. Hopefully these tunes will be some sort of consolation to your weekend of Mi Goreng and Netflix… Check ‘em below, presented by Jim Beam:

Crocodylus – ‘Social Climber’

Some good news from The Crocs camp (on top of this epic new tune) – they’ve been busy chipping away at a debut album following on from a string of EPs, including this year’s aptly titled Enjoy. ‘Social Climber’ is a fun garage-y number that’ll be running around your head all day, and it includes lyrics that we can all relate to – everyone knows a clout chaser.

“This song’s about being in a relationship with someone who’s climbing the non-existent social ladder,” frontman Josh Williams says. “It’s about trying to make the relationship work but it all becomes too much. Manipulation and jealousy comes into play as well as some 12 string and organ action. The song was written a few years ago and it’s sick to see it finally recorded with a full band.”

TOTTY – ‘Same Bed’

Documenting the staleness of life on tour, the Wollongong trio take us on an unending sleep loop in the video for their anthemic newie ‘Same Bed’. The expansive track has a real punk-power ballad feel to it with Kel’s vocals sounding as impressive as ever. It’s one we imagine will be hitting very hard with the groups swelling army of fans, especially since they’ve made us wait a little longer for their Garden EP. It’s due November 6th (pre-save here).

Raj Mahal – ‘Glimpse’

Raj Mahal and producer/collaborator Domba deal up some unrelenting bars in his latest fiery number ‘Glimpse’. With his unmistakable voice taking up the low-end of the mix, he’s backed by some whirring samples, making sure there’s no sitting still when this one is blasting from the speakers. Fellow USA-via-Sydney rapper Danté Knows also swoops in and lets loose with a similar intensity and poise.

“Glimpse is raw and nasty, filled with authentic Caribbean flavor that influenced my entire childhood, being that my parents are from Haiti and Jamaica,” Raj says of the tune. “If you grew up as a West Indian in Boston or New York, you’ll know what I’m talking about. If this is what “commercial” Raj Mahal is capable of, then it’s not looking good for these other rappers.”

Perto ft. Banoffee – ‘I Miss You’

Created in between Melbourne lockdowns, Perto and Banoffee have teamed up for this gem that has some clear influences from life in the days of COVID-19 (even if it’s not deliberate). With some heavy bass, huge vocals and a tasty little synth hook, we have a feeling this bop will be soundtracking many at-home dance parties this weekend.

RACKETT ft. Danté Knows – ‘Everywhere You’re Not’

Sydney sound shifting artist RACKETT is serving up another slice of electro-pop gold today and she’s bringing NY rapper Danté Knows (he’s clearly had a busy coupla months…) along for the ride. The bass-heavy track includes more melodic hooks than you could poke a stick at, with Danté also bringing the heat via a sizzling smash and grab verse. Inspired by A$AP Rocky’s ‘L$D’, the clip sees them utilise the glowing neons of an arcade, giving it a fitting futuristic gleam.
