Answering the prayers of the entire indie rock, R&B and soul worlds, UK singer-songwriter Yellow Days has linked up with Canadian prince of hearts Mac DeMarco for new song ‘The Curse’. The tune comes as Yellow Days continues to build hype for his sophomore album A Day in a Yellow Beat, which is set for release on September 18 and is the follow up to 2017’s Is Everything Okay in Your World?.
This is definitely a big moment for Yellow Days (real name George van den Broek), the Manchester Crooner being handpicked to open up for DeMarco in the UK last summer and constantly earning comparisons to the Indie sweetheart. And the collab completely works, with DeMarco’s warped, spirit-rocking guitar line adding a beautiful extra layer to Yellow Days’ soulful vocals and minimalist production. The tune sees Yellow Days deal with mental health and the state of fear he’s been living in, realising that its “bout time I broke out this funk, ‘Bout time I lift the curse.”
Along with the tune, Yellow Days has a dropped a fresh af music vid set to a trippy green screen. The video sees Yellow Days employ all the effects and backdrops in his arsenal to deliver a fully immersive, almost chaotic, experience.
The tune and vid are both equally sick, and Mac’s guitar is absolute heaven, doing so damn much with so little. It’s properly dope, check it below.
