Classic hip hop and rap heads brace yourselves, as a recent conversation with Lil Wayne’s longtime associate Cortez Bryant has revealed some things we definitely weren’t ready for. Specifically, the “F” in Lil Wayne’s line “Weezy F Baby, and the F is for phenomenal”, from his song “Yes”, was reportedly a mistake. Yes, you read that right, Wayne, who’s meticulous when it comes to his wordplay, made a mistake, but the hip hop world seemed to absolutely love it.

Speaking on the lyric in a recent conversation Andrew Barber’s Fake Shore Drive show, Wayne’s associate Bryant went in on the lyric, saying “The word starts with ‘ph,’ but he said ‘f,’ right? He was like, ‘Oh sh*t, I gotta change that.’ We released it. We had an argument about that. He not understanding the concept about digital, and it’s gone now…We had pressed tons of CDs, but he didn’t realize he spelled it wrong, and I didn’t catch it.”

Apparently the mistake being let out into the world really ate at Wayne, with Bryant saying “Wayne is a perfectionist about that, using his words and prepositions in [the] correct way,” Bryant continued. “He might misspell something on purpose for lyrical exercise and wordplay, but he’s really precise about his wordplay. He was really down, pissed, ‘F-ck the whole mixtape’ just because of that one damn line.”
