Did you watch those two old men yell at each other this week? Or did you do the smart thing and stay as far away from the presidential debate as possible? Either way you’ve probs had your social feeds rinsed with the highlights or the memes in the past couple of days… what a headache. Thank the music gods we have some treats for you this week that will wipe that from your memory, if only for a little while. Check it below, presented by Jim Beam:
Do you hate cops? Probably not as much as Inner-West trio SCABZ do. Their latest track ‘Guess Who’ combines the tongue-in-cheek of 2019’s ‘Feel Good Summer’ with the staunch political messaging of 2020’s ‘Who Do You Stand For’ and is further evidence that SCABZ are Australia’s unwavering punk heroes. Fuck. There’s even a saxophone solo in there which they somehow make cool (must be heard to be believed!).
“I was walking down King Street one day and just so happened to end up behind a pack of coppers doing the rounds of an early afternoon, going into every pub, checking in on ‘safety’ and hassling people at the train station,” vocalist Siobhan says of the track. “They all seemed to get along so well and enjoy each other’s company, even though everyone else wanted them to piss off. And I remember thinking it must be a real particular kind of person from a young age who wants to be a cop, and that would make a funny song. So, I popped into the pub Loz works at, and we started writing the lyrics.”
Delivering another slice of dreamy pop in the form of ‘Beautiful Undone’, Sydney’s ILUKA is here to serenade you right into the weekend. The introspective track that lyrically centres around letting go of things that are out of our control, comes with a shiny new clip too. Directed by Aimee-Lee Curran, it sees ILUKA in a series of ethereal sets that fit the track’s uplifting melodies perfectly. Cop it below:

Episode Seven of Gorillaz’ Song Machine run of tracks is quite the doozy. Teaming up with Grammy-nominated rapper 6lack and the Rocketman himself Elton John for a euphoric ballad that brings together genres in the way that only Damon Albarn is capable of doing.

Chet Faker FKA Nick Murphy FKA Chet Faker has returned with a chilled out groover that sounds like it was made to accompany a couple of cold drinks underneath the hot summer sun. Was that his intention? Who knows, but what we can tell you is it has us feeling anything but ‘Low’. We could swim in these silken melodies and tripped-out beats all day long.
What better way to celebrate the weekend than with a re-working of Aussie trio Crooked Colour’s spacey banger ‘Love Language’ by LA-based producer SNBRN. Close your eys, chuck this on, and let your problems float away:
