We all wonder what our favourite artists were like when they were first starting out. Were they as good then as they are now? Were they always so confident? Could you tell that they were destined for greatness, even then? It’s always a wonder that we’re never lucky enough to find out. Luckily, in Detroit rapper Eminem’s case, we just might have that missing piece of the puzzle.
A video of what is reportedly Em’s first ever recorded live performance is making waves online. The vid in question is from 1996, and shows a 24-year-old Em taking to an outdoor stage with his rap crew at the time D12. If all the dates are right, the vid is a good two to three years before Em signed with Dr. Dre at Aftermath, which changed everything for the young rapper.
The vid shows Em absolutely slaughtering on stage, performing the classic tune ‘Low Down, Dirty’, which ended up on the Slim Shady EP a year later. IT literally feels like we’re right in the crowd with the onlookers, looking upon a rap legend in the making. It’s clear he was killing it even then, and that the ferocity & confidence he brings to his live shows wasn’t cultivated or gifted to him after the success, rather, he always had it. Check out the piece of rap history below.
