The UK outfit have produced their most poignant and hard-hitting record to date.

Having teased fans with singles ‘Is Everybody Going Crazy?’, ‘Real Love Song’ and ‘Impossible’ over the past few months, Nothing But Thieves have keenly demonstrated that the stakes are higher on their third studio album, Moral Panic. Dropping today, the record shakes off the gentler indie-rock sensibility of Broken Machine in favour of gritty guitars and thumping rhythms, whilst still maintaining that euphoric shimmer that we’ve come to expect.

Sonically taking cues from countrymen Kasabian and Humbug-era Arctic Monkeys the group have bottled their collective frustration with the divisive state of world politics, raising their fists with unwavering vigour. The chaotic energy of tracks like ‘Phobia’, which has an undeniable QOTSA vibe, or the at-times operatic ‘Can You Afford To Be An Individual’ embody the overwhelming forces – social media, politics, corporate dominance – that are constantly affecting our everyday lives.

“The songs fall somewhere between rage and resignation. We are pitted against one another consistently. Our fears are used against us for ad revenue. The modern debate calls for us to assume anyone who disagrees with us on any level holds a view which is completely in opposition to ours. My truth is not your truth and your truth makes you scum,” the band says of the current socio-political climate.

“We exist in online tribes. Sometimes that is the only way we get through the day. Sometimes it’s because we like to cause pain. Where do we find hope or relief? Do we still have a choice? Can you afford to be an individual?”
