The man can do it all…

Ty Dolla Sign’s latest album Featuring Ty Dolla Sign (we’re never gonna get over that title) is straight up dope and was executed to perfection. It seems the world agrees, the album killing it on the airwaves. Thus, capitalising on all the attention he’s getting at the moment, Ty made the best possible move to keep it going, returning to NPR’s Tiny Desk for sick as hell at-home set.

The California singer/ rapper didn’t spare any expense for his fans, performing ‘Temptations,’ ‘Ego Death’ and ‘Your Turn’ from the new album as well as other fan-favourites like ‘Or Nah,’ ‘Paranoid,’ and ‘Something New’.

Ty recruits a minimal space for him and his band, setting up shop in a super aesthetic room that looks like it’s from a celebrity house tour. And in a straight up power move, Ty at one point busts out the MPC for ‘Ego Death,’ transcending the house into a total groove that explodes with the funkadelic.

But his ending with ‘Your Turn’ is absolutely perfect, stripping it down with just a guitar and some harmonies to really show off his vocal warmth and dexterity. It feels like it’s its own separate little performance, throwing it back to the days of Smokey Robinson and the Temptations as he properly reaches into his soul bag. Anyone who at all tries to reduce Ty to just another feature artist needs to watch this outro, just so they can realise how unbelievably wrong they are. It’s seriously sick, and super cool to see Ty finally get the recognition he truly deserves. Check out the full Tiny Desk below.
