With their sophomore album just days away, Tired Lion lift the lid on how it all came together.

Having teased us with singles ‘Waterbed’, ‘Lie To Me’ and most recently the melancholy earworm ‘Cya Later’, we couldn’t be more excited to hear Tired Lion’s follow up to their 2017 breakthrough Dumb Days. The group, which is led by Sophie Hopes has an undeniable knack for backing up melodies that sway between dreamy and angsty with an emotional gut punch.

‘Cya Later’, which has been added to full rotation on triple j, borrows a little from 90s acts like Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth while maintaining a certain Australianness via Hopes’ coolly delivered vocals. It couldn’t have been in safer hands than Violent Soho’s Luke Boerdam, who produced the record and is no stranger to mixing grungey energy and hearstrung lyricism.

“This song was my attempt to desperately try and find my way out of a bout of depression where I had completely hidden myself from the world”, Hopes says of the track. “I guess I needed a way to set myself free and find a way to be okay. I moved to Brisbane and was missing my family a lot. When I was writing this song I wanted to use a happy memory that would have the power to take me back to that place.”
