Jay-Z is a man known for his immaculate taste, his presence in the hip hop and music game in general almost always followed by a display of his eye for talent and ability to set trends. Thus, his annual end of year playlist is something hip hop fans have constantly scratched into their calendar over the years, the new drop almost always guaranteed to sum up the years music in the best way possible, while giving shine to the artists who actually deserve it (Grammys take note). Thus, of course his 2020 list is pure fire and this is definitely gonna be our soundtrack to the weekend.
Naturally, Beyonce’s ‘Black Parade’ appears on the list, as well as songs from Jay Electronica and more underground acts like Boldy James, Mach-Hommy, Morray, and Roc Marciano. He also goes outside of hip hop, naming artists like Burna Boy, Master KG and KeiyA, who gets multiple placements on the list (an accolade all on its own).
The list also includes gems from the stars who straight up dominated 2020, with artists like Drake, Nas, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Megan Thee Stallion, Pop Smoke, and Saint JHN all appearing multiple times. Hilariously, 2 Chainz’s ‘Southside Hov’ track also appears, Hov paying it back to Chainz after the rapper showed him love on the tune.
