In some heartbreaking news that’s set to make any Chance The Rapper fan just a bit sad, it seems Chano is being sued by former manager Pat Corcoran for $3 million USD ($4 million AUD). The lawsuit specifically states that Chance wrongfully fired Pat due to the poor reception of his 2019 album The Big Day, and is now refusing to honour the terms of their original agreement formed way back in 2012.
The suit is seeking damages for the breach of contract as well as the money already owed by Chance. It seems there’s a lot of bad blood between the two now, with Chance reportedly blaming Pat for the poor ticket sales for The Big Day tour as well, leading to him replacing him as his manager with his father Ken Bennett. Now, Pat’s properly on the warpath, wanting pay for all projects he worked with Chance on including merch.
However, the deal Pat made with Chance was a “handshake deal”, thus it’s gonna be mad difficult to prove all of the above in court as well as his 15% ownership in court. Interestingly, Chance’s father has already offered Pat $350,000 USD ($471,000 AUD) as a settlement, so it seems there’s some validity to Pat’s claims.
Pretty sad news, and kinda whack if Chano actually fired Pat for that reason. Let’s face it, The Big Day was pretty disappointing as an album and the whole world agreed. Fingers crossed the two can resolve their differences soon.
Check out an interview with Pat way back in 2017 talking about how he and Chano achieved their global success on the world stage:
