If you at all consider yourself cool, smooth or just totally steezy, get ready to check yourself harder than the bloke Ice Cube was having a go at in 1992, as Sydney’s Rachad has just released the visuals for his new tune ‘Creeping’ (out today), and he’s showing us up so hard we might as well give up now.
The tune sees the Canadian-born talent link up with local creative juggernauts Marcaida, Mixtri and Chunky Luv delivering a soft R&B ballad that plucks all the right strings and hits all the right notes. Singing about the temptation to creep on an ex and vice-versa, the Sydney-based creative gets deep on his relational struggles, keeping it all the way 100 as he bares his soul about connection and intimacy. Of course, his vocals are totally insatiable, his tenor blessings drenched in a boundless warmth and allure right up there with the likes of Omar Apollo, The Weeknd and Drizzy himself. Except, there’s a layer of honesty inherent to Rachad that’s completely otherworldly, his artistic spirit delivering waves of vulnerability that instantly intrigue and overcome you, leaving you desperately searching for answers as to how such a soul could even exist.
The accompanying video sees Rachad link up with the OG Sondr Films for a tantalising visual, reinventing the classic hotel room serenade for a multi-dimensional exploration of love, passion and intimacy. Every shot, transition and close up is injected with a hard-hitting precision that makes for perfect execution, the video acting as a surrealist love letter to romanticism in all of its perfection, imperfection and ecstacy. It’s clear Rachad and Sondr aren’t afraid to push the bounds visually, the video embracing exhilarating reds and blues that reek of gorgeous danger, set at just the right voltage to electrify the being. All that aside however, the video is also just super fucking steamy, giving a high-octane portrayal of young love that’s exuberant and exhilarating, but still real and authentic.
Described by the Canadian-born talent as a “toxic tug of war” between “two people who feel the same way about each other, but are forced to admire each other from afar” the tune and video really explore that temptation to rekindle things with a former lover, but in a way more badass way that totally sets fire to the soul. It hones in on the transformation of a relationship from close and interdependent to broken and disconnected, flushing out a part of the breakup process often acknowledged, but not enough explored.
The man reeks of bravado, emanating an effortless confidence impossible to craft or manufacture. He’s definitely one of the ones to watch in the Sydney scene, breathing enough raw fire into his craft to put Sydney R&B right up there with the likes of Toronto and LA. You’re definitely gonna be seeing a lot more of him in 2021, so you best get yourself on board before he explodes so hard the GOATs of rhythm, blues and all things soul come calling. Do yourself a favour and get on the train right now, and make sure to follow him on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date on all of his latest projects.
