Super real.

Adding this to the ‘Vibes’ playlist…

It’s more than fair to say that indie-artist Clairo is super open when it comes to her personal struggles, the young 23-year-old’s confessional lyrics and deeply personal subject matter helping her to be a champion for mental health across the world. And with the worsening COVID-19 pandemic in the US and the accompanying lockdowns, you’d be safe to assume such circumstances wouldn’t be the best for one’s frame of mind.

Thus, she’s done the best thing possible in her situation, crafting a gorgeous new song titled ‘Just For Today’. The tune sees her flex those mad guitar skills as she sings over an arpeggiated instrumental, breathing husky lyrics as she sings lyrics like “I blocked out the month of February for support / At least I have this year I won’t be worrying anyone on tour / As we speak, I’m here to meet devils for tea, peering ’round the corner of my life / I throw my drink in the face of my demise.” You can also hear her dog Joanie being an adorable nuisance in the background, in what you can tell is definitely a one-take recording. But regardless, it works just perfectly.

Posting to Instagram, Clairo (real name Claire Cottril) wrote “not sure about you, but my mental health has taken a major dip since quarantine started- at times I feel like i’ve never felt worse. new medication, hotlines, and one scheduled appointment with a psychiatrist later and i’m feeling more like myself again.

“I wrote this last night and i feel there’s no real reason I should hold onto it. Hope you enjoy the song and Joanie’s squeaks. thank you.”

Pretty heartfelt. Really hoping she properly releases this soon. Check out ‘Just For Today’ below.
