Absolute heat…

As you can probably tell, we’re straight up loving immersing ourselves in tracks by local artists each and every week. It’s bloody heartwarming to see just how much art this nation has to offer, and it definitely does its part (and then some) to distract us from the absolute ridiculousness of the world.

But enough about that. We know what you’re here for. Five tracks by local artists that are kick ass in every sense of the word? Does that ring a bell? We’r guessing it rings many, and we’re not gonna procrastinate any longer.

Check it below.

The Terrys – ‘Our Paradise’

Gerringong rockers The Terrys capture pure bliss on ‘Our Paradise,’ jamming out a sunshine-heavy tune that transports you to a beautiful open road with no troubles to plague your being. The track dials it down a notch from their last release ‘Pesos,’ but make no mistake, the long-haired larrikins have by no means lost their grit. Singing about getting caught in the Monday to Friday rat race, the tune is a killer reminder that beauty is all around us. Paradise is a mindset, and that all that’s standing between you and fantasy-living is your own noggin.

As usual, the tune is filled to the brim with kick ass guitars, drums and pounding vocals that strike the perfect balance between carefree and deliberate. Oh, and also a tonne of heart and soul that the five-piece continue to show in spades. A track that’s bloody perfect for your next road trip, we couldn’t recommend it enough. Check it below.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets – ‘Pukebox’

Perth rockers Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have cut us off a delicious slice of mind-bending sweetness in ‘Pukebox,’ revelling in their otherworldly wizardry as they go to town on our souls. Featuring their signature heavy-hitting guitars, hard AF vocals and floor-to-the-floor drums with some fleeting piano lines, the tune as a whole is just a kick ass example of how bloody reliable the five-piece is for crafting killer tunes.

But although it’s super tight and works like a well-oiled machine, there’s still this rich spontaneity to the tune, listening as if the boys are just jamming the night away and exploring very creative choice possible. Soar, dip, twirl and expand, the tune takes so many shapes and forms, but always stays true to its initial feeling. It’s a banger in every sense of the word. Definitely check it out.

Barley Passable – ‘Turnaround’

Sydney electro-duo Barley Passable are feeling the groove on ‘Turnaround,’ leaning into their funk inclinations for a simmering bop that captivates you into the night. Made up of creative extraordinaries Kai Ollmann and Davy Brown, the duo calls upon the great hallmarks of disco to capture the fire of the funkadelic. From ember-like guitar licks to punchy vocals and some glorious retro-synths that are nostalgic beyond belief, the tune as a whole is just a beautiful love letter to one of the greatest periods in music.

But it still manages to remain current in the soundscape of 2021, with mellow key lines and subtle electronic ornamentation precisely curated, almost as if the duo have one foot in disco and the other in chill-wave. It’s a track that’s gorgeously unique, and thus we’re busting it on repeat. Definitely check it out.

Julia Stone ft. Matt Berninger – ‘We All Have’

Sydney folk-enchantress Julia Stone spins the most healing of webs on ‘We All Have,’ blessing us with angelic vocals that articulate the unpredictability of life in all of its beauty and devastation. Starting with poignant piano chords that instantly set a sombre mood, the stage is perfectly set for the folk star to serenade us into catharsis. Utilising her vocal mastery and harmonic understanding, the singer-songwriter layers gorgeous vocals on top of each other that pack a hell of an emotional punch. Her lyrical blessing are literally a shot of endorphins right to the soul, mesmerising you with this unbridled mix of hope and melancholy.

And we gotta give some shine to The National frontman Matt Berninger, who digs into the track with that rich baritone voice that perfectly compliments Julia. Their harmonies together feel almost yin and yang like in its delivery. But aside from their unique vocal tones, there’s barely any difference between them. Both are radiating all of the same wonderful emotions and feelings, making a perfect whole that’s equal parts transportive and grounding. Definitely check it out.

Logic1000 – ‘I Won’t Forget’

Globe-trotting producer/ DJ Logic1000 brings the heat with ‘I Won’t Forget,’ crafting an emotionally charged banger that builds with momentous anticipation. Decorated with addictive kicks, hypnotic piano lines and chant-like vocals, the tune burns with an entrancing aura, leading you into the moonlight as the ‘Blossom’ curator flexes her expansive production chops for the whole world to see.

Every piece feels perfectly placed, everything from each individual sample, pad and effect listening as if thousands of hours of thought have preceded them. But it still feels effortless, still totally spontaneous and off the cuff, which just goes to show how badass of a creator Logic truly is. Make sure to check it out below.
