After literal years of teasing and speculation, Hollywood talent Jamie Foxx has finally been properly confirmed to play Mike Tyson in a biographical limited series, simply named ‘Tyson.’ The project was first teased by Foxx way back in 2015 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but it appears it’s been a slow burn to get it going on the production side. But it seems that the long rev-up period has paid off, as the project has already got some huge heavy hitters attached in Antoine Fuqua as director and Martin Scorsese as executive producer.
Speaking on the new series, Tyson said “I have been looking to tell my story for quite some time. With the recent launch of Legends Only League and the excitement from fans following my return to the ring, now feels like the perfect moment.
“I look forward to collaborating with Martin, Antoine, Jamie, and the entire creative team to bring audiences a series that not only captures my professional and personal journey but also inspires and entertains.”
The series will indeed cover all of Tyson’s life, from his becoming the youngest ever heavyweight champion in boxing history in 1986 to his legal troubles, jail sentence and even his more recent comeback into the world of boxing.
Pretty exciting. The series doesn’t yet appear to have home on a network or streaming service, but no doubt they’re all currently fighting each other over the chance to get the special opportunity.
