Hiring the Moaning Lisa crew if I ever need a boxing coach…

Naarm/Melbourne-based four-piece Moaning Lisa are back in a flurry this Wednesday morning, dropping the clip for their latest single ‘Inadequacy’ and announcing their debut album Something Like This But Not This.

The new video sees Moaning Lisa hop in the ring with a couple of pro-wrestlers for a half-wrestling match/Moaning Lisa performance. However, there’s just so much more going on beneath that, the band drawing parallels between their creative pursuits and wrestling through the exploration of intimacy, communication and the intensity inherent to following one’s calling.

It makes for some killer moments throughout the clip, moments like the shot at 2:56 perfectly showing the similarity between the two endeavours as Moaning Lisa soundtrack some bloke beating the hell out of another (wherever you are, we hope you’re doing alright mate).

Along with the video comes news of an album, Ngunnawal/Canberra-raised outfit announcing their debut record Something Like This But Not This, which is set to be released on October 8th. Speaking on the debut, lead guitarist Ellen Chan and drummer Hayden Fritzlaff explain “It’s our first album and so we wanted to capture who we are and who we have been as a band throughout this first part of our existence.

“The original thought behind the tracklist was to capture the dynamics and flow of our live set. We wanted to replicate the energy we have when we play on stage together but also experiment and do things we can only achieve with the luxury of recording in a studio.”

Exciting times for long-time and new fans alike. Be sure to pre-save the album here. For now, check out the full tracklist below.
