Sydney/Eora singer-songwriter Annie Hamilton has given us a sweet taste of the music she’s been working on as of late, dropping her first single for the year ‘Exist’ with an enchanting music video.
The new offering sees the ‘Californian Carpark Concrete’ singer get hypnotic both lyrically and instrumentally, her folk-tinged vocals meshing with the winds of guitars and synths as she treads the path between hymn and bop. It all comes together toward the end of the track however, waves of utterances and instrumentation coming together and washing over you utterly and fully.
The video, directed by Jordan Watton, matches the soundscape of the track in spades, shadowy rooms and hallways filled with candles; setting this ethereal mood that has remnants of all of her past singles while staying distinctly true to ‘Exist.’ At one point Annie even dons a bunch of bat-wings as she plays along with her band. Needless to say, DC, if you’re ever looking for a new Batwoman to replace Ruby Rose, we’re voting Annie.
Oh and also, her chicken Grimes makes an appearance at around 36 seconds in. Normally an appearance like that wouldn’t be included in an article like this, but Grimes is no ordinary chicken and shouldn’t be treated as such.
Speaking on the new release, Annie explains “I wrote this song in the middle of lockdown last year, about someone very close to me who was going through a difficult time. It’s about focusing on the small things when you cannot control the big things.”
Definitely words that ring true now more than ever. Check out ‘Exist’ above. You can follow her on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on all of her latest projects.
