Sydney/Eora-based ray of good vibes Young Franco is continuing to flex his chops as a producer with a seemingly endless range, dropping his latest single ‘Underneath’ ft. longtime pal and producer magnate Golden Vessel.

The track follows Franco as he revisits his indie roots, venturing away from the vibrant hip hop/dance blend he’s been perfecting as of late and instead opting for a tender slow burn that listens like a stopping of all space time; the type of moment that ensues when your breath is well and truly taken away.

It’s an image that seems to line up Golden Vessel’s vision for the track, with the Brissy/Meeanjin producer explaining “To me it feels like it’s about that corny moment at a music festival or a concert where you’ve spotted someone a couple of times and you lock eyes with them. Your favourite band is playing and you feel really connected with this stranger even though you know nothing about them.”

Naturally, Golden Vessel’s soothing vocals float atop the bubbly production with ease, his repetition of lines like ‘Underneath your eyes’ on the hook meshing wonderfully with jazzy piano chords and cosmic basslines. There are also plenty of little inflections and additional pieces of sonic wizardry interspersed throughout, along with an acoustic guitar line to round it all off. The track as a whole is just a super mellow and wavy lullaby, the type that would prompt massive group hugs in a festival crowd whenever it’s played live (I can’t begin to express how much I miss those moments).

Explaining the creation of the track, Golden Vessel adds  “Joey (Young Franco) and I wrote this one together last year! We started a couple of ideas which were all feeling a little flat. This was the third idea which we actually almost didn’t make. We built it around a recording that I made on my piano and then Joey added drums and this amazing bass-line.”

As always, Young Franco and Golden Vessel go together just like strawberries with melted chocolate, peanut butter with jelly, and tomato sauce with the fridge (NOT cupboard). Needless to say, catch this badboy in my ‘vibes’ playlist for the foreseeable future.
