Looks like we’ve got the soundtrack for our next revolution…

Fremantle psychonauts Pond have burst into the stratosphere with rebellion and defiance in their latest single ‘Human Touch,’ the multi-instrumentalist outfit giving us another taste of their album 9, and consequently keeping us on our toes as to what to expect when it drops on October 1st.

The new single sees the Ponderers continue on their quest to break down the invisible conventions upholding society, singing about the disconnect between societal outcasts and the corporate suits that we seemingly idolises. Sonically this is the most raw and badass we’ve seen the group in recent years, backed by blistering guitar lines as singer Nick Allbrook mirrors the instrumentation with his own roars and screams.

Visually the clip is centred on the frontman as he takes to the deserted Perth central business district, dancing the night away in a pair of platform shoes (no modest feat by the way). It turns out the final product slightly differs from the initial vision however, with Allbrook admitting “My original idea was to be dancing in the central business district of Perth, being thoroughly ignored by suits on their lunch break. Turns out me and Duncan Wright (Director) are both quivering Fremantle natives and terrified of the City.

“When Duncan saw a pretty sliver of morning sunlight in the West End we figured, stuff it, let’s do it there.”

Speaking on the unlikely inspiration for the new single, frontman Nick Allbrook adds “One time a woman was smashing up a car outside my house, begging me to help her steal it. It was a lovely day. She was wired but sweet in a way. Her dog, Josie, was sitting in the passenger seat being very cute and fluffy.

“We talked for a good few hours in the sunny cul-de-sac and neither of us ended up committing grand theft auto. The music started with a grimey Casio loop Jay made, that we built the song around.”

Last minute filming changes, pounding guitar lines, unlikely inspiration and Nick Allbrook being every bit the rockstar we’ve come to love him as; ‘Human Touch’ might very well be the most Pond track out of their 9 offerings so far. Check it out above for a delicious dose of ridiculousness.
