Tyler’s choices span Jay’s nearly 20 year career.

There was an outpouring of praise for Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z during his birthday over the weekend, including from fellow hip-hop artist Tyler, The Creator, who took to Twitter to reveal his all-time top five favourite Jay-Z songs.

Joining the chorus of online fans already participating in the top-tier list making, Tyler selected tracks from the full span of Jay’s catalogue, from 2002’s Excuse Me Miss and Fuck All Night, to his more recent songs like the Grammy Family freestyle and the Pharrell-assisted Allure. Rounding out the top five, Tyler sang praise for Do It Again off Hov’s Vol. 3 album, but couldn’t cap his favourites at just five.

Including a sixth addition, Tyler also listed Jay-Z’s Show You How, before admitting it’d be impossible to remove any of his choices and that they’re in no particular order. While they’ve only worked together previously on Frank Ocean’s Biking in 2017, there’s evidently a lot of love between the pair, with Tyler claiming that Jay’s verses “put a lot in perspective for me as a kid.”
