We all know the feeling of opening a vinyl for the first time, ripping the sheets of plastic off those wondrous wax pizzas and popping it into the vinyl player of your choosing. It’s a gorgeous feeling, and if you’re a fellow collector, you’d know once you’ve caught the vinyl bug, there’s no going back.
And so, with it being that special time of year where dollars are spent by the hundred-fold in the lead up to Chrissy, it made sense to craft a listicle for the wax-pizza enthusiasts out there. An assortment of records that would make the endless shopping lines and last-minute rushes all that much more worth it. Whether you buy them for yourself or slyly send this article to someone to give them some ideas is up to you; but the important thing is that you go ham, and that you treat yourself to a wax pizza christmas.
Check it below.
It tastes and sounds like strawberries on a summer evening, the hybrid pop and folk album Styles’ most successful release to date. And naturally, with the platinum smash ‘Watermelon Sugar’ on it, it’s more than ready to soundtrack your summer nights over the next couple of weeks.

The homegrown album we’ve all been waiting for since 2019’s ‘Dance Monkey,’ Tones and I’s Welcome To The Madhouse is well-equipped for all the crazy family dinners and mischief you’ll be getting up to as you party away 2021. And with a bustling 14 tracks, it’s got a little something for whatever holiday mood/spirit you may be in. Although ‘Fly Away’ is without a doubt perfect sonic embodiment of that post-party euphoria (which we’ve had a lot of lately).

A bit of acoustic-goodness never hurt nobody, and Brissy’s Amy Shark has plenty of it on her sophomore effort Cry Forever. Contrary to the title of the album, you’ll be doing a whole lot more than just crying when listening to it, especially when the Keith Urban feature ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ crackles into being on your record player. I’m already imagining those drums and chords in analogue form; gotta get me that wax pizza.

The ever-eclectic Tash Sultana is raw and unfiltered on Terra Firma, the multi-instrumentalist serving up enough soul and blues to ease the pain of the endless ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ plays that occur around Chrissy. It’s definitely a more vibey record ready to soundtrack those rare quiet nights in during the Christmas period, and with tracks like ‘Beyond The Pine’ crackling over your vinyl player, we guarantee you’ll be able to make a whole night and more out of Terra Firma.

Sydney 5 Seconds of Summer frontman Luke Hemmings showed off a side of him I don’t think any of us saw coming in his solo debut When Facing Things We Turn Away From, the high octane debut full of soul-stirring pop and rock far removed from the 5 Seconds of Summer sonic palette. It definitely hits a whole lot harder in vinyl form (talking from first hand experience here), and man, I’m already getting ready to bump this when I’m hungover on Christmas day.

Imagine the very best of two-decade long discography, all at your fingertips? That’s what Foo Fighters’ 2009 album of the same name is, and the vinyl version of it will perhaps be one of the few times you won’t even wish to skip a track. Featuring the likes of ‘My Hero,’ ‘Learn To Fly’ and of course ‘Everlong’ (both the original and acoustic), it’ll no doubt have the family crowded around the vinyl player for a cheeky singalong or two this holiday period.
