The 2022 Oscar season is upon us, with the Academy last night revealing its full list of nominees for the year’s best films.

Spanning 23 categories, Jane Campion’s Netflix film Power Of The Dog snagged the most nominations, including a nod for both Best Picture and Best Director. Following behind with a respectable 10, sci-fi epic Dune scored noms across Best Picture and a stack of technical categories. King Richard, the biopic about the early lives of Serena and Venus Williams, as well as Don’t Look Up, Belfast and Liquorice Pizza round out the year’s Best Picture nominations.

On the acting front, Australia’s sweetheart Nicole Kidman scored her fourth Best Actress nod in a field of multiple previous nominees including Jessica Chastain and Olivia Colman, while Oscar newbie Kristen Stewart got a shout for her portrayal of Princess Diana. Meanwhile, Will Smith received a much-overdue nomination, leading a Best Actor race that also includes Denzel Washington, Andrew Garfield and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The list isn’t without an expected dose of snubs, with Lady Gaga’s work in House of Gucci (and indeed the entire film more broadly) being overlooked by the Academy despite its buzzy release. Arguably the year’s biggest flick, Spider-Man: No Way Home was thought to be in contention as the Academy’s mainstream candidate, but came up empty handed in a race of mostly-conventional Oscar bait. Peep the full list of 2022’s Academy Award nominees in the major categories below:
