But this time, he isn’t returning as just an artist, rather, as the sole owner. The move comes after Snoop vowed to buy the label and acquire the rights to his music on it last year, and now, he’s already halfway there.
For a bit of backstory, Death Row was Snoop’s first home when he arrived on the scene way back in 1992, featuring on Dr. Dre’s debut solo single ‘Deep Cover’. Now, it seems he’s keen on restoring the label to its former glory, with the Doggfather saying in a statement, “I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value. It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members… I’m looking forward to building the next chapter of Death Row Records.”
The details of the purchase are yet to be released, but regardless of the price-tag, it’s definitely a full-circle moment for the ‘Gin and Juice’ rapper. For a bit of nostalgia, check out Snoop’s Death Row debut on ‘Deep Cover’ below, and get ready for the return of the Row.
