The one-minute teaser is full of revelations and realisations about the 74-year-old comic’s rise to prominence, but perhaps one of the most surprising is that he was rather late to the comedy game, with David explaining “Twenty-five years old, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Well, what do you do when you’re talking and people are laughing? You do comedy.”
He also touches on starting Curb Your Enthusiasm and his similarities (or lack thereof) to the fictionalised version of himself he plays on the show, with David adding, “I’m a total fraud. And the Curb outlet for me is this guy I wanna be. He’s completely honest, just the opposite of who I am, and it’s a thrill.”
Not gonna lie, I was pretty taken aback by that “fraud” comment, especially given that David went to bat for Seinfeld so hard that he was prepared to quit if NBC executives didn’t let him make ‘The Contest’, the notorious episode where the gang competes to see who can go the longest without having a little solo fun.
