Ever-elusive rapper Kendrick Lamar has broken his social media silence this Tuesday morning, announcing his long-awaited 5th studio album Mr Morale & The Big Steppers. The announcement came after the rapper tweeted out a link to his website which revealed the title for the album along with a May 13th release date.
No track list or any other information has yet been revealed for the new record, however, he’s all but confirmed he’ll be releasing it without the aid of Top Dawg Entertainment this time around, instead opting to announce it through his independent label PGLang. It seems there’s no bad blood between Lamar and his former label however, with the rapper writing online last year, “May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling. There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown.”
It’s welcome news for Kendrick fans who have waited five years for new music since 2017’s Damn (whose lead single ‘Humble’ bagged the top spot for the 2017 Hottest 100). Only time will tell however as to whether we’ll get a single or two before the record’s release. Check out the teaser for the album below, and get ready for the return of Kung-Fu Kenny.
