After having made waves internationally as a songwriter and producer on Russ’ smash ‘Never Again’, Sydney talent Alexandra (real name Alexandra Lawton) is looking inward for her latest creations. And it’s resulted in her latest track ‘Eulogy’, which we’re stoked to be premiering today.
Produced by longtime friend Danielle Huen and guitarist Ian Lewis, the slow-burn starts with haunting harmonies and strings that set an eerie but tender tone that draws you in. The cascading violins enhance such immersion, all before Alexandra’s soulful vocals enter the soundscape. Boasting a sultry tone that balances power and vulnerability, the Sydney songstress captures the spirit of powerhouses like Adele and Amy Winehouse. However, it’s done with a new-age twist that’s both refreshing and invigorating, particularly on her alternation from chest to head voice on lines like “Write me a euology/before you bury me”.
A highlight of the track, however, is the ease with which Alexandra keeps you in the palm of her hand throughout the verses in what’s a standout feature of the overall creation. Between the deeply personal and conceptual lyrics, acrobat-like vocals and atmospheric arrangement, the track as a whole is flush with magnetism and spellbinding aura, a concoction that is enriched with each and every listen.
Speaking on the track and it’s redemptive qualities, Alexandra explains how her “growing
disillusionment with life during a terrible time in history led me to take refuge in music &
song-writing. From there, ‘Eulogy’ was born.” It seems we have plenty more to look forward to as well, with Alexandra adding that ‘Eulogy’ is “Chapter One of a string of singles that follow my journey to find happiness.”
No doubt she’s got plenty more from where ‘Eulogy’ came from. Be sure to check the new tune out above, and while you’re at it, follow ALEXANDRA on Instagram to stay up to date on all of her future releases.
