The veteran producer serves up a feel-good bop for your Thursday arvo…

Much to the avail of fans across the country, Sydney-based maestro L D R U has made a triumphant return this Thursday, releasing his latest heater ‘The Excuse’. The new cut comes following his critically acclaimed remix of Major Lazer’s ‘Be Together’ as well as singles like ‘Basecamp’ and ‘Ride Through’, and serves as a full invigoration of the homegrown producer’s sound.

Driven forth by atmospheric percussion and piano lines, the new offering from the ‘Keeping Score’ producer crafts a soundscape bubbling with energy. In true L D R U fashion, however, the track straddles the line between dance and pop, the up-tempo sonics balanced by the ballad-like vocals that help it transcend beyond the dance genre.

The tail-half of the track, however, is where L D R U turns up the energy levels, revolving synths and cascading drums striking a hypnotic chord with the listener. It’s a sentiment enhanced by the psychedelic visualiser (courtesy of Aussie digital artist Ego/Undersea Creative), which showcases the bop’s various collaborators like co-writer Taras Hrubyj-Piper and drummer Tom Cardy as they’re warped and distorted by countless visual effects.

Speaking on the collaborative nature of the new single, L D R U explains, “Synergy between great minds and feelings alike, all mixed into one harmonious blend of dance/rock and pop. It’s about not caring what anyone else thinks, clearing your head from all the drama and having a genuine childlike state of mind – really having fun, with the kind of laughter that makes your cheeks ache from smiling so much.”

Definitely a worthy track to return with. L D R U’s new single ‘The Excuse’ is out now. You can buy/stream it here.
