If you haven’t heard of Sydney’s The Blamers, then strap yourself in. The duo – made up of Nick Nuisance (from the eponymous Nick Nuisance & The Delinquents) and Isobella Grist – are bringing rock ‘n’ roll in a big way.
After cutting their teeth around Sydney with a series of live shows for the past year or so, the band have finally dropped their debut single ‘Hook, Line & Sinker.’ A red-hot smack of sizzling vocals and crunchy, no-fucks guitar, the 1-minute and 53-second song demands instant repeat as it’s all over in a flash, hook, line and sinker.

Today, the band have dropped an accompanying video shot on Super 8, directed and edited by Nuisance and Grist, with cinematography by Tim Baker. Shot at Wombarra rock pool down the south coast of Sydney, the video looks like something Wes Anderson might have made on the weekend (had he smoked a spliff or two beforehand).
Plenty of close-ups and tactical zooms add to the comedy of the clip, which is driven by pitch-perfect performances from Grist and Nuisance. But the cherry on top is, without doubt, the assortment of fishing paraphernalia, from the Bass Pro Shops hat and the rusty tackle box to the classic noughties animatronic singing prop, Big Mouth Billy Bass, which you’ll likely recognise from a dusty corner of your uncle’s house.

“The video clip takes the literal meaning of Hook, Line & Sinker and explores a classic South Coast fishing scene, with Isobella hunting for a fresh feed and ends up catching a succulent Nuisance,” The Blamers said of the clip.
The project of The Blamers is straightforward: “to simplify rock back to its basic proto-punk form” complete with “a healthy dose of tambourine.” ‘Hook, Line & Sinker’ is the first taste of what will eventually be the band’s debut album, with more to come soon.
Check out the video below and catch The Blamers at the ‘Hook, Line & Sinker’ single launch on the 17th of September at Vic On The Park, supported by Tombeau & The Idiots.
