“Nobody will sign a deal that involves free music”, they said…

Ever wondered how Spotify got past the legislative hell of the music world to get you your tunes? If you have, you’re in luck, as the journey of the beloved streamer is now being told via a new six-episode series on Netflix, titled The Playlist.

Set to land on October 13th, the recounting of Spotify’s journey to the top follows a group of Swedish tech entrepreneurs as they “set out to revolutionise the music industry with a legal streaming platform”.

The two-minute teaser, which is set to Avicii’s ‘Levels’, adheres to the description, showing the various tech-heads behind the company striving to bring their vision to life, all while navigating the legal minefield of the entertainment industry. It all culminates in a stereotypical studio executive proclaiming that “Nobody will sign a deal that involves free music”, which, we all know doesn’t age well.

It’s no doubt a must-watch for anyone who’s ever wondered about the origins of the streaming platform. Check out the full trailer below.
