Hailing from the dark, sweaty alleys of Sydney’s Marrickville, Bad Jeep Country first emerged on the scene earlier this year with the release of their debut track ‘Rodeo Dancer’. “Cosmic country, coked-up disco and cowboy krautrock” is the band’s choice descriptor for their slinky, sprawling style – and never was there a label more apt than theirs.
‘Rodeo Dancer’ represents the first offering from the band’s debut album, Line Dancing, which is due out early next year. Now, they’ve unveiled the video, which traces the band’s search for transcendence on a night out – be it in the smoky corners of the club, or within the minuscule granules of sweat and dirt – all the while led by the holy gleam of a pair of light-up neon boots.
Filmed, directed and edited by Nathan Lewis, the clip features band members Jeremy Hyland, Phil Shingles, Keely Morrison and Vince O’Malley. Also on board is Matt Cresswell on colour grading duties, Alex Kiers on art direction and lighting and Mie and Nick Ryan filling the roles of production assistant and wardrobe coordinator.
“The clip captures a typical night out for Bad Jeep Country, something along the lines of line dancing, neon boots, champagne and sugar rain. It evokes a louche sentiment as they prowl for transcendence in the confines of the club,” the band described.

“Synchronised dancing… pair that with light-up neon boots and you can’t fuck that up. The boots arguably stole the show here,” director Nathan Lewis added.
With Jeremy Hyland at the helm, there is a cult-like quality to Bad Jeep Country, which gives the sense that once you’re on board the Bad Jeep Country wagon, you’re unlikely to ever get off. If ‘Rodeo Dancer’ is anything to go by, it will be exciting to see what’s in store for a band with already such a unique and solidified vision.
All eyes on Bad Jeep Country.
