Badalamenti was a longtime collaborator of director David Lynch, composing the score for Twin Peaks (both the two seasons from the ’90s and the reboot from 2017), as well as Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive and The Straight Story.
The theme for Twin Peaks would go down as one of the greatest in theme music history, and it even earned Badalamenti a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1990. Badalamenti also recorded songs with a range of mainstream artists including David Bowie, Nina Simone, Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield, Siouxsie Sioux and, of course, Julee Cruise.

Cruise also passed away earlier this year, but was known for her collaborations with Lynch and Badalamenti, with her distinct vocals featuring on numerous songs from the Twin Peaks soundtrack, including ‘Falling’, ‘Into the Night’ and ‘The Nightingale’. She also made multiple appearances in the show as a singer at the local bar, the Roadhouse.
During an encore for their show at Brooklyn Steel on Tuesday night, LCD Soundsystem paid tribute to Badalamenti and Cruise by covering the show’s theme, ‘Falling’, incorporating it at the end of a performance of their beloved 2007 track, ‘New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down’. As they played the theme, the stage backdrop displayed the pattern from Twin Peaks‘ Red Room. Check out footage of their tribute below.
