The rising singer/rapper links up with producer Infuschia for the new single…

It’s been a busy two years for R&B and hip hop gem, Squid The Kid. Placing in the top two for the highly-acclaimed Vans Musician’s Most Wanted Finals, starring in a Tommy Jeans campaign and selling out a debut headline show, it’s hard to believe the Melbourne upstart even has the time to release new music. But alas, it seems Squid’s time management skills have once again prevailed, this time for the creation of his latest single, ‘Getaway’, which we’re stoked to be premiering for you this Tuesday arvo.

Produced by fellow Melbournite, Infuschia, the new groove from the 24-year-old talent is another refreshing splash of his signature brand of R&B and hip hop. Taking turns singing and rapping, Squid creates a seamless flow that’s the epitome of easy listening. His utterances find a vibrant synchronicity with Infuschia’s sonics as well, the sonic maestro cultivating a Kaytranada-like beat with wavy keys and synths as Squid pulls from his Anderson.Paak bag with ease.

It all comes to a thrilling crescendo as Squid sings, “Need some time/Need some space/Now my mind’s going crazy” in this lush falsetto that sweetens with every listen. The mid-tempo number has this reinvigorating quality that’s impossible to miss, a quality that appears to be by design by Squid’s own admission, “The song is all about the importance of recharging your batteries, leading to a clearer head space which at the end of the day will benefit your relationships moving forward.”

A refreshing addition to any summer playlist, ‘Getaway’ is another entry into Squid The Kid’s ever-growing discography, and is a testament to his ability to cultivate catchy bops with the soul and authenticity to match. Be sure check it out above and follow him on Instagram here.
