Following yesterday’s sly tweet teasing its long-awaited return, Netflix’s Black Mirror has up and dropped the trailer for its upcoming sixth season. Set to land on the streamer in June, the season will reportedly have more episodes than its predecessor, along with longer and more cinematic stories (no complaints here).
The trailer for Netflix’s favourite mindfuck has also shown off the impressive season six cast that “have no right to exist” as according to series creator Charlie Booker. It’s safe to say he’s got a point, with the likes of Aaron Paul, Kate Mara, Salma Hayek, Michael Cera and more all shown in the minute-and-a-half teaser. As for the episodes the trailer gives a glimpse at, it seems the beloved show is set to offer up its most experimental and edgy stories yet, with various flashes showing brutal murders, jump-scares and one terrifying scene of Zazie Beats trying to use dial up internet (perhaps the scariest scene of them all).
Having last hit our screens in 2019, back before global pandemics and when the world was generally a much less chaotic place, it seems the years off have led to a full revamping of the series behind the scenes, with Booker explaining, “I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect. Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is.”
One can only imagine what kind of technology-based horrors and dystopian nightmares Brooker will conjure up this time around. Perhaps a sentient refrigerator that wants to be your friend, or a self-driving car with a mind of its own. Whatever it is, Black Mirror will definitely enjoy a welcome return for the show when it lands on Netflix in June. Check out the full season six trailer below.
