Does anyone have a spare radiation suit?

After what seems like a lifetime of waiting, Christopher Nolan is finally set to release his upcoming World War Two epic, Oppenheimer, this July. And now, we’ve gotten a new trailer for the new film, and no surprises here, but a movie about the creation of biggest bomb known to man isn’t exactly the most inspiring tale.

Indeed, it seems Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer is plagued by enormous pressure and stress from the military industrial complex throughout the three minute teaser. Most notably, Matt Damon’s General Leslie Groves Jr. is shown to be the biggest thorn in his side throughout the trailer, the director of the Manhattan Project shown to constantly berate and question the scientists every move in the lead up to the detonation. We also get a look at other government officials throughout the teaser, including the likes of Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.

Additionally, unlike the first trailer, Oppenheimer’s personal life and how it’s thrown into free fall is also showcased in the new reveal, with his wife Kitty Oppenheimer (played by Emily Blunt) and various fellow scientists (and what even looks like his mentor, Albert Einstein, at one point) shown to voice their disapproval and fear of the atom bomb.

It ultimately culminates in Kenneth Branagh’s unnamed character stating that, “You are the man who gave them the power to destroy themselves and the world is not prepared.” The trailer ends shortly after with the countdown to detonation, and although we already know what comes next, it’s hard not to feel a jolt of anxiety nonetheless. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is released in cinemas on July 21st. Check out the new trailer below.
