Byron-based band Ocean Alley are seemingly impossible to escape in 2023, the psychedelic surf outfit having a presence on every stage, concert hall and airwave in the country. It’s a trait that’s propelled them to the very top of the local music scene in Australia, and most recently took them to a bustling Splendour amphitheatre set in replacement of UK singer, Lewis Capaldi. Not to mention, they also just scored the third spot in triple j’s Hottest 100 Like A Version countdown for their ever-enduring cover of Player’s ‘Baby Come Back’.
It seems the Ocean Alley hype is just as electric it was when they burst onto the scene in 2016, and judging by our most recent conversation with them on the LWA roof, it seems they’ve managed to remain completely unaffected by it.
Yes, we wrangled the six surf-loving larrikin’s together while they were in Sydney a couple of weeks back to chat their upcoming Aussie tour, ‘Baby Come Back’, the most rank feeds they’ve had on the road and more. The chat is totally on par with the one we had with them in 2018, except, in the band’s own words, there’s definitely nowhere near as much hair on them in 2023 (happens to the best of us).
Check out the full interview below, and if you haven’t already, be sure to cop the final (and limited) tickets to their upcoming Aussie tour here.
