In what’s sure to reawaken legions of detractors across the world, Nickelback, one of the most despised bands of all time, has decided to embrace their lack of adoration, starring in a new doco about just how they became so hated across the world. Titled Hate To Love: Nickelback, the new feature is set to explore the bands origins, their rise to superstardom and the inevitable public witch hunt against them.
Now, we’ve gotten the first trailer for Hate To Love, revealing the band members navigating their hometown as they reflect on life in the public eye, with guitarist Ryan Peake looking slightly out of his depth as he muses, “Nobody picks up a guitar to be the most hated band in the world.”
Of course, it seems the band are still living in the 2000s in the snippet, with frontman Chad Kroeger still sporting his signature frosted tips (if there was one 2000s trend that really needs to die) as adds, “You can laugh off about 90 percent of it. Some of it… it hurts. I play Nickelback songs to Nickelback fans, so I don’t have go and try to win over someone who doesn’t like my band.”
All ribbing aside, the band come across as pretty relatable in the three minute teaser, reflecting on their notoriety with plenty of humility and honesty. However, it is hard to gain any sympathy for them while their music is playing throughout the clip. I mean, I get that it’s a documentary about their music, so the inclusion of their songs is kind of implied, but let’s just say that after all of these years, ‘How You Remind Me’ still manages to make my blood boil.
