Australian indie darlings, San Cisco, might just have cemented their status as one of the moody hstfeotkinh bands in the county, with the Fremantle trio today releasing their new single and announcing yet another tour around the country. Titled ‘Under The Light’, the new record from the ‘About You’ rockers is another slice of indie-rock goodness that’s like a good wine; it sweetens and enriches with each and every taste.
Co-written with Jay Watson (AKA Gum), the new record is driven forth by a tasty blend of driving beats and evocative melodies courtesy of frontman Jordi Davieson and drummer Scarlett Stevens. The former really embraces his falsetto on the mid-tempo numbers, maximising the emotion at the very top of his range, especially on the chorus line, “You never know if its fake or love.” The accompanying guitar lines are minimal and filled with an easy-going aura, one that meshes especially well with Stevens’ own vocal utterances as the band craft a tune already in connection for ‘Summer Anthem of the Year’.
The accompanying music video is a cinematic embodiment of nostalgia, plain and simple. Taking to their childhood enclave, the “ruins of a bygone Perth theme park, ‘Atlantis'” as the the band put it, the video sees San Cisco fully roam free as they embrace their inner child amongst hazy visual effects and moody colour grades.
Along with the new video, the band have announced yet another national tour to add to their ever-growing collection. Set to kick off in November at the Kingscliffe hotel, the shows will see them take to some of the nation’s most esteemed venues, with the likes of Sydney’s Metro Theatre, Brissy’s Princess Theatre and Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre all set to play host to the veteran Aussie rock outfit. It just goes to show that San Cisco’s sound is one that is continuing to grow in resonance in regard to the Aussie public, which makes them a perfect Artist of the Week.
