Netflix has served up yet another look at Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan as Leonard and Felicia Bernstein in the new trailer for The Maestro, the new epic centred on the famous music conductor and his storied life. And, in what’s sure to make your blood boil, despite being aged several decades via prosthetics and makeup, the two still somehow manage to look annoyingly beautiful, a curse it seems of being bonafide Hollywood stars.
Venturing into Cooper’s more dramatic bag, the film (which is directed by the man himself) dives head first into the romance genre as it covers the love story between the two famous history figures, all the while experimenting with storytelling devices and styles in a trailer that puts even that of A Star Is Born to shame (I said what I said).
Beginning with a gripping black and white montage of Cooper’s Bernstein courting Mulligan, the film quickly transitions into colour as he strikes the big time as a conductor, all the while showing the various struggles they encounter along the way such as Bernstein’s infidelity, the growing pressures of the limelight and more. The highlight however is the opening shot of Cooper and Mulligan playing a guessing game as young lovers in a black and white park, with the trailer ending with the same shot but of the two significantly older in colour.
The film also features actress Maya Hawke as the duo’s daughter along with other celebs Sarah Silverman, Sam Nivola, Matt Bomer and more on supporting duties, however we don’t get too much of a look at them in the teaser.
Hot take here: but The Maestro could very well be there year that the Oscars come calling for old mate Bradley as a director. Check out the full trailer for the film below.
